Courtyard to Afterglow

Built environments and their surroundings trade places across the sequence: recreational hardware shares paving with carved stone, plants press against masonry, and the frames pull back through canopy and mountainside before ending in grain and light.

The sequence opens on brick paving where a basketball hoop with a red-and-white net stands in front of an open-sided pavilion with a red tile roof. Carved stone figures and a large footed stone urn hold the steps, ferns and potted plants crowd the left side, and a bare-branched tree arches overhead. No one is visible in the frame.

The next two frames move to ground level and close range. Orange, white, and calico fish crowd dark pond water seen from directly above, dimpling the surface near wooden boards where a pair of flame-patterned sneakers stands at the edge. Then a weathered concrete staircase cuts a hard diagonal across a stained gray wall, broad dark leaves and bright groundcover pushing up from below.

The closing frames widen and then dim. A dense tree canopy fills one frame entirely from above, fan-shaped fern crowns breaking the darker texture, with a reddish flare along the frame edge. A conical mountain follows, dark flow-like slopes spilling toward a green valley while cloud hides the summit. The final frame is nearly black: heavy grain and two soft yellow-green streaks of light are all that remain.
