A Walk From Courthouse To Memorial Gate

A seven-frame walking sequence moving from civic and working subjects — a courthouse sculpture and firefighters beside their engine — to a recurring iron cemetery gate photographed across several return visits, closing on an engraved memorial slab etched with fragments of faces.

courthouse sculpture / firefighters at work / recurring iron gate / autumn headstone rows / engraved memorial slab

The sequence opens on a blindfolded bronze figure holding raised scales atop a pedestal before a courthouse's gridded glass window, carved lettering reading BRYAN UNITED STATES above. It then moves to two firefighters beside their engine on a wet street, one carrying a dripping coiled hose.

Four frames return again and again to the same wrought-iron gate: first opened wide onto rows of white headstones and a tree turning orange, then from a slightly different angle, then close against the blurred bars, and finally with the gate itself thrown out of shallow focus while the tree beyond stays sharp.

The sequence closes on an engraved stone slab reading FROM THE PAST THEY SPEAK, IN VARIED VOICE AND FAMILIAR FACES, its surface etched with small panels of face fragments and the photographer's own shadow falling across the lower corner.

A blindfolded bronze figure holds raised scales in each hand while standing on a pedestal in front of a courthouse's gridded glass window.
Carved lettering above reads BRYAN UNITED STATES, with a further word cropped by the frame's right edge. A relief of running hares lines the base below the pedestal.
Two firefighters in dark turnout gear stand beside a fire engine, one carrying a dripping coiled hose on a wet street.
Partial lettering reading ALEX is visible on the truck's ladder rail, cropped by the frame and not fully legible. Brick and glass office buildings rise behind them.
An open wrought-iron gate framed by ivy-dark posts reveals rows of white headstones and one tree with orange foliage beyond.
Fallen leaves cover the dirt path in the foreground, while overhanging green leaves frame the top of the gate.
Seen through an open iron gate, rows of white headstones fan out across a lawn beside a tree turning orange.
A metal hinge is visible on the near gate post, and a distant building with dark trim is faintly visible past the tree line.
Dark gate bars fill most of the frame in close focus, while headstones and an orange tree blur softly beyond them.
The pale sky is rendered flat and bright behind the softly blurred rows of headstones and foliage.
Shallow focus renders the iron gate and its posts as dark blurs while a tree in full orange leaf stays sharp beyond them.
Tall evergreens and a curving file of small white headstones fill the green lawn behind the tree.
An engraved stone slab reads FROM THE PAST THEY SPEAK, IN VARIED VOICE AND FAMILIAR FACES above small panels etched with faces.
The photographer's own shadow falls across the lower right of the slab, and an incised vine motif curls up the left edge.
