The Street Arrives Upside Down

Seven downward views rebuild a city from standing water, one broken facade and passing body at a time.

puddle architecture / inverted pedestrians / wet pavement

The camera never looks up. A pale tower first appears as a soft grid in standing water, then umbrellas and paired walkers enter the puddles while their actual legs arrive upside down along the lower edge.

Across darker asphalt and block paving, yellow panels, reversed lettering, road marks, and one small light spot keep rearranging the same rule. The street is present everywhere, but only after the water turns it over.

A soft-focus puddle on gravelly pavement reflects a pale gridded tower, a white sky, and a yellow rectangle at the upper right.
The opening frame is out of focus, with a reflected tower dissolving into the white of the sky.
A puddle reflects one person from behind holding a pale umbrella between gridded building facades, while inverted pedestrians' legs and a paper bag cross the bottom edge.
A single figure under an umbrella stands in the reflected gap of sky, while the real foot traffic passes upside down below.
A puddle reflects two people walking side by side, one in dark clothing and one in a light shirt, with inverted pedestrians' legs along the lower edge.
Two figures walk together inside the reflection while trousered legs and shoes stride upside down across the bottom of the frame.
A puddle on gray pavement reflects a vertical latticed tower, white sky, a horizontal bar on a pole, and a yellow sign with dark characters.
With no figures in the water, the reflection reduces to a tower, a blank sky, and a signboard.
A band of standing water on dark asphalt reflects a gridded facade and pale sky, with inverted legs and shoes of passing pedestrians at the lower right.
The asphalt goes dark and the reflection shrinks to a narrow strip, with feet passing upside down at the corner.
A sharp-edged puddle on dark block paving reflects white sky on its left half and a yellow-lit panel beside a red-brown gridded facade on its right.
A puddle with rounded corners sits like a window in the paving, half white sky and half yellow and red.
A puddle on dark paving reflects a tall latticed building and a dark grid with one small bright light spot, beside a white painted line.
The closing frame holds a whole latticed building in the water, with a single point of light burning in the dark grid.
