First Up, Then Across
A short sequence that moves from static facades seen from below to the hardware of a level crossing, contrasting fixed structures with motion-blurred trains.
The sequence opens with the camera tilted upward. A tall tan-clad building with rows of small square windows leans across the frame under an overcast sky, its roofline topped by a row of thin posts and an oval sign bearing three Japanese characters. The next frame studies the rounded corner of a metal-clad building, its horizontal bands and strips of reflective windows converging toward a pale sky.
The view then drops to track level. A white train with a blue stripe blurs past behind a metal railing and a bed of pink flowers, with apartment balconies and a web of overhead wires holding still behind it. Two closer frames push into the crossing itself: horizontal streaks of white, pink, and blue between dark signal housings, then a yellow sign reading 注意 beneath a lit amber bar as another pale train passes.
The closing frames widen out. A red lamp hangs over the same yellow sign with rails and gravel beyond, and finally a convex mirror on an orange pole, a striped crossbuck, a red lamp, and an orange sign reading 踏切注意 stand in front of a blurred train and a tiered tower rising in the distance.
