The roll opens face-down, the way any sensible monster hunt should. Rain has pooled between paving stones, and in the puddle a dark, hunched silhouette wavers — more suggestion than creature, a shape the water refuses to commit to. The color negative leans into the blues and greys of the wet stone, and the grain does the rest, letting the reflection stay half-legend.

Then the beast itself, or at least its head, met at eye level through glass. Rows of pale teeth catch the overcast light, textured hide filling most of the frame while reflected buildings and sky slide across the surface like weather passing over scales. A few frames later the register shifts to pure theater: a snarling figure with lit orange eyes rears against a painted snow-capped volcano, everything bathed in a deep diorama blue, the film's date stamp burning faintly at the edge like a countdown.

The last frame pulls all the way back and looks up. A striped high-rise carries the words HOTEL GRACERY, cinema and IMAX signage glowing partway down, and there — small now, almost polite — the same great head leans over a terrace ledge above a movie poster, keeping watch on the street. The monster turns out to be a resident, and the roll closes with the city carrying on beneath it.
