Trip to Ojisan Film Lab
An errand to a working film lab, told in five frames: the road on the way, the storefront and three helmeted people in green jackets, film sold from a vending machine, a woman on her phone beside a couch, and the neon figure inspecting a strip of film.
The sequence opens from the back seat of a right-hand-drive car. A charm of beads, a small bottle, a pierced metal disc, pale tassels, and a red-and-white cloth streamer hangs from the rearview mirror, which catches part of the driver's face, while the windshield is filled by a truck stacked high with white sacks. A phone mounted near the glass shows a map-like screen, and a motorcyclist in a white helmet passes a red banner outside the side window.
The destination is a storefront marked by a tall black banner reading OJISAN FILM LAB, advertising premium develop and scanning and roll film supply, open everyday until 21.00. Three helmeted people in green jackets, one jacket bearing a gojek logo, stand at the counter beneath a warm neon figure glowing inside. In a separate frame, a weathered green vending machine offers film canisters and boxed Kodak and Fujifilm products, including single-use cameras, from illuminated, price-labeled slots between doors trimmed with curled ironwork.
The closing frames slow down around the shop itself. A woman with curly hair and a patterned headband looks at her phone against a dark textured stone wall, her tote bag resting on a pale green couch. In the window, a yellow neon outline of a mustachioed man in a beret and glasses holds a dotted strip of film up for inspection above shelves of photographic goods, ending the errand where the roll was headed all along.
